The volunteer-driven organization has numerous ongoing projects in the Birmingham area, including the signature Pre-K Learning Initiative, which focuses on improving the lives of 4-year-olds across the community. With $750,000 invested over the past 12 years, a core emphasis is on fostering learning through play among young children who are at a critical juncture in their education.

The initiative involves providing interactive learning toys and resources in classrooms and ensuring that teachers for young learners are well-trained and passionate about early childhood education. It also brings focus to the importance of involving parents in their children’s education and incorporates a partnership with the United Way’s Success by Six program.

The Birmingham Public School System has also been part of this nexus since 2012, through providing pre-K classrooms in existing schools. Over the past 14 years, 17 classrooms have been furnished, and a resource center has been opened that coaches parents and trains pre-K educators.
