The Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced Sept. 25, 2017, that University of Alabama juniors Damien Harris and Ross Pierschbacher were named the SEC’s Players of the Week. Following the Crimson Tide’s decisive 59-0 victory over Vanderbilt on Sept. 23, Harris was selected for his offensive contribution, while Pierschbacher was recognized for his performance on the offensive line.
Harris, the 5 foot, 11 inch, 212-pound running back out of Richmond, Kentucky, spearheaded Alabama’s rushing game by averaging 12.6 yards per carry. Setting career-high records in both rushing yards and touchdowns against the Commodores, the junior from Madison Southern High School rushed for 151 yards and contributed three touchdowns.
Helping the Crimson Tide roll to 677 total offensive yards, Pierschbacher was instrumental in clearing the path for the running game. Setting up key blocks for the offensive line, the redshirt junior from Cedar Falls, Iowa, led Alabama to 496 total rushing yards with no sacks allowed.
